Along the coach roads I did ride, and with the sea I did abide
This project is a collection of posters that I created in my senior year of college. Each one has a unique and interesting backstory, and they all combine to create a series that I've titled "The Highwayman". The display itself was up for a little over a week, in the Oren Gateway Center at Augsburg University. This was an opportunity for us as students to showcase our skills and create something truly unique to us. I chose to create this project and focus on honing my screeprinting skills, as well as testing my technical skills within Illustrator and Photoshop.
My process for making each poster included locating an initial image that would be central to the feel and purpose of the poster. After that, I took that image and recreated it in Adobe Illustrator. After that, I moved to a digital drawing tablet and started sketching/doodling on top of that image. I made a lot of use of the eyeball imagery, and it seemed to have the effect I was looking for. Each of the subjects I chose for my posters represents something valuable and introspective in my life. My father flew the plane that's in one of the posters. Friends are of course, always important. I chose a large, towering temple to represent the church. I also play a lot of guitar, and it's something near and dear to me. Each one of those symbols was then surrounded by eyeballs and all sorts of interesting linework that folds in on itself and creates an interesting depth effect without becoming a subject all its own. In some ways, the posters look back at you.
This project forced me to think outside of the box. I was able to bring together different elements of myself in a new and interesting way to give new and valuable perspective.
